NAZIS ASSAULT JEWS.

BRUTAL ATTACKS IN BERLIN. DISORDERS NEAR SYNAGOGUE. Times Cable. LONDON, Sept. 14. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that hundreds of Nazis, who displayed organised hooliganism almost incredible in a city like Berlin, attacked Jews and persons of Jewish appearance in a crowded Kurfurstendamn, a leading West End street. They smashed chairs and windows in a cafo and created pandemonium. The disorders began near the synagogue, where Jewish New Year services were being held. Brutal violence was displayed. Many of the passers-by were flung down and savagely beaten. Prosperous citizens silting in the cafes seemed to approve of the disorders. The police arrested 50 roughs, but most of them escaped, laughing derisively at the authorities and shouting insults at the Jews. The announcement of a political debate between Nazi and Communist leaders caused an excited crowd of 20,000 to besiege the Sports Palace in the Potsdamrner St rasse. When the police opened the gate the mob surged in. Women were trampled under foot, in spite of the vigorous use of truncheons by the police. A free fight between Nazis and Communists developed in the courtyard and 65 persons were seriously injured.
