AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. E. V. ROBERTS WINS HONOURS. The final match of the Auckland provincial amateur billnida championship for the Billiards. Limited, Shield, was concluded laet evening at Messrs. Billiards, Limited, showrooms, E. \. Roberts defeating M. D. White by 1000 points to 676. A large gathering, including many ladies, witnessed the final session. The ecores at the previous session were: Roberts, in play, 501; M. D. White, 405. Roberts carried his 8 unfinished to 33 before failine. A further break of 35 wss added to his score soon afterwards. The balls were breaking for him at this stage, and be made good use of'his chances. He played brilliantly in registering an all-round break of 08, being unfortunate in just musing a century. A further run of 37 gave Roberts n commanding lead, the scores being 802 to 486 in his favour. White was having a distinctly off night and he could do nothing right. Roberts continued to score freely, and excelled in breaks of 37 and 48. White gave a taste of his quality in making a break of failing over an easy drop cannon. Playing an uphill game he added a further break of 48 to his score. Roberts maintained bis advantage, however, and won points. The. final scores were:—E. V. 1000; breaks of 33, 35. "20. 26, OS. 37, 22, 48, 27 and 35; average 15 for the session and i 1.5 for the whole game. M. D. White, 616; breaks of 53 and 48. On behalf of Messrs. Billiard?. Limited, Mr. C. Cummins congratulated the players on their excellent displays, and presented Mr Roberts with the Billiards, Limited. Shield, which he will hold for one year, a.ud also a gold medal to commemorate his victory Mr. White, the runner-up. received the net of balls used in the championship, and Mr. K. Tait was presented with a, cue and case for making the highest break outside the finalists. . A warm tribute to the conditions under which the championship was conducted was paid by Mr. W. E. Hackett. on behalf of the players.
