CHURCH SOLD FOR £24.
HIGHER PRICES FOR SHOPS. The old Methodist Church in Walker Street, North Sydney, was sold by auction for demolition purposes recently for £24. It was opened in 1865 by "California" Taylor, a popular American preacher. The land on which it stands was given by Mr. James Milson, and the cost of the building, with additions which were made in 1833, was about £6OOG. When the church was built it was in bushland; and surrounded by tall trees, a few of which still stand within the churchyard of Christ Church, Lavender Bay. Various shop, properties in Walker Street were also sold to make way for the new Lane Cove Road approach to the harbour bridge. Two shops were sold for £l6O, three for £290, and premises formerly used as dental chambers for £65.
