ORAPAI AND LADY QUEX. GOOD SIX FURLONGS EFFORTS. [from our own correspondent.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. Two fine days made a wonderful difference io the New Plymouth track, which was in Kood order for training work this morning. All the galloping took placo on the trial grass. March Alone, and Monaghan sprinted two furlongs in 25 2-5s March Alone infused plenty of dash into his work and has improved a lot lately. Orapai, Cornerman and Carriole wore sent six furlongs. They went fast down the back and the first two began to draw awa.v from Garrick Orapai led into the straight and was a neck in front at the post in 1.17 3-5 Orapai did his work very impressively and should play his part well in tho Flying Handicap at Wanganui on Thursday, when lie will be ridden by 11. Gray. The three-year-olds Gibraltar and Easter Time wore associated over seven furlongs, the. former finishing on well to beat his companion by a length. '1 he last live furlongs look si shade under 1.7. Gibrultur did his work well, but Easter Time again stopped in t lie straight. Royal Bengal, Arvada and Greon Patch all went well over three furlongs in 40 2-ss. Without being hurried, these three are coining on nicely Singer went once round at an easy threequarter pace. Gold Dawn was allotted a similar task, but was allowed to stretch out for a few furlongs. Spanish Prince, who continues to improve, did steady pace work 011 the plough. Sparkling Morn and True Lap covered half a mile in 00 4-ss. True Lap bears an improved appearance this season. Merry Way had too much pace for Glowlight over the last hundred yards of half a mile in G'iis, the last two furlongs being covered in 25Js. Both did their work attractively, especially Merry Way. Lady Quex had Royal Finance as a companion over six furlongs. The pace was 011 from the start and they ran the first four furlongs in 50Js. Lady Quex finished better and beat her stable mate by a length in 1.17}. This was her best, effort to date end she did her work really well. Royal Finance was also impressive, as she stuck to her speedy compnnion right until the last 50 yards. Little Doubt's task was a mile, assisted by Miss Chatter over the last five furlongs. The pace was on all the way, and Little Doubt finished up strongly. The last seven furloncs took 1.34 3-5 and 'he Inst five I.o}. It was " really good gallop and the Antagonist gelding looks as though he may next wet(k atone for his past failures. HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB. NO GUINEAS RACE THIS YEAR. A decision not to run the Hawke's Bnv Guineas this year has been made by the committee, of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club. The valuo fixed for the race, was i'3so and there were 03 entries. Tho committee decided that in view of the financial position the guineas was too expensive a race for tho club to run at the present juncture. Tho programme for the meeting on November 7 has been drawn up, 110 raco being of a less valuo than £IOO. TROTTING FIXTURES. October 3—Mefhven Trotting Club. Ootobe** 10—New Brighton Trotting Club.
