THE MOSAIC LAW.
Sir,—ln the Herald of September 7 " Punter" says he cannot remember anything in tho Mosaic law relating to betting. Might I ask him to turn to the Tenth Commandment, which says, " Thou shalt not covet . . . anything that is thy neighbour's?" If betting is not coveting, I should like to know what it is. Surely a man does not put 10s on a horse in the hope that his neighbour may win it. Tho man who wins tho bet gets money for which he gives no value. The British codo of law is based on a few of the other commandments, and it might have been better for the Empire had it included the whole ten. C.N.J.
