AMATEUR BILLIARDS.
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. ROBERTS DEFEATS MORRISON. The second semi-final of the Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship was played last evening and resulted in a win for E. V, Roberts, who easily defeated E. J. Morrison. The players soon settled down to their game, Roberts m&king the first break of note, an, excellent effort of .. 54, before failing over quite a comparatively _■ easy losing hazard. Morrison followed soon - after by an all-round break of 38. A further run of 20 by Roberts gave him a 30-odd lead at the first 100 mark. A 20 by Morrison resulted in a 37 by Roberts. Both were playing attractive billiards, with Robert# having slightly the better of the play. •- Breaks of 21 and 36, the latter all red ball , hazards, were the next efforts by Roberts. _ He had gained a good lead at this stage, tha scores being 210 to 115. Morrison had had. a few fruitless visits to thetable. He, how- - ever, added a 20 break to his score- Roberts was now playing right tip to his best form . and in faultless style he compiled a splendid break of 136, the highest of the tourney. He scored most of the points by hazard play. He had a great lead at thia stage, the scores being 405 io 189. Morrison _ was in an unenviable position as far as the scores were concerned. However, ha made a break of 25. being unfortunate in miscueing when he appeared well set. Roberta . maintained his lead and won by 231 points, ~ averaging 10.3 for the game. The final scores were:—(E. V. Roberts, ~- 500; breaks of 52. 20. 37, 3S, 21, 136 and 21. E. J. Morrison, 269; breaks of 38, 21, 20. 25 and 24. '
The final between M. D. White and E. V. Roberts will be played on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
