LIKELY CANDIDATES. SILVER DE ORO'S PROSPECTS. Silver de Oio's appearance in the Spring Handicap at the Wellington trotting meeting to-day will be interesting in view of her classic engagements this season. Silver de Oro created a very favourable impression when she spread-eagled tho Sapling Stakes field at Ashbuiton in June, and many good judges considered that she was the best youngster for her inches seen out for some time. She will have an excellent chance to display her ability to-day, but, unless she gets Gold Country out of the way in ay earlier race, her stocks will not be valued quite so highly. Mr. J. R. Corri ?an's Hawera stable will be represented by the trotter Ben Bingen, the improving pacer Arabond and the maiden Cracker. If Arabond possesses more solidness than he tl. splayed iu his autumn racing, he will be useful in his class, but the prospects of Ben Bingen are better. Last season Ben Bingen made good improvement under T Roe'.', charge, and. being sliil on it useful mark, lie should have a chance of picking up some prize-money early in the season.

Deceitful. one, of the limit division in the Nai Nai Handicap, is bred on good lines, being by Nelson Bingen from a Rothschild marc. Threa seasons ago, when meed nt Hastings by W. T. Lowe, owner of Trampfast', Deceitful displayed rare promise, but. for some time subsequently she did not make much, progress. Deceitful has since shown a return to form and particularly over 12 furlongs has trotted very fast. The distance of the Nai Nni Handicap, 13 furlongs, should suit her to-day. K'yallo Silk Well Placed. Nyallo Silk, a son of the American-bred sire Silk Thread, who won his only race last season at Wellington, is remarkably well placed in the Trial Handicap. The opposition does not look particularly strong, and if Nyallo Silk fails ho will lose a lot of friends. Linfilla. who is in the Trial Stake# field, hails from H. W. Aker's stable and is practically the only pacer nt present in serious work at the once active and powerful Wildwood establishment. Linella, who has had an interrupted preparation, has made good progress lately and is expected to make a creditable showing.

Although great things have been expected of Great. Nelson eince ho dead-heated with Groat Way in the New Ze.aland Trotting Stakes at Forbury Park in 19*29. ho has ho far failed to make much advancement. Great Nelson is a full-brother to Great Bingen and Peter,, Bingen, but as a racehorse lie has not 'lived no to tho family traditions. Being now six years old, time may have played its part with him, in which case he should have something to eay in the settlement of the Nai Nai Handicap. Without winning a race last season, the Otaki-owned and trained pacer Native Berry gave a few creditable displays, blie is by Native Hero, a good performer, from Loganberry, and in her r#ces at Manawatu and Taranaki last season proved herself a smart filly out of the barrier, but she was lacking in stamina when the T furlong found the pace all on. _ Native Berry should have improved in this respect in tho interval, and off lb© front of tho Sliarpo Handicap. 10 furlongs, should make things interesting. , , .. . Chenawny, the promising half-brother to Great Ballin. is reported to be doing well at Hutt Park for L O. Thomas, and. he is expected to play an important part .in -He decision of the Spring Handicap. At Wellington on one occasion last season he demonstrated just how good ho was but he proved a difficult, colt to keep right and was not given much racing. When last in Auckland Thomas said that Cncnaway had built np a good deal and he anticipated that as a four-year-old he would make good progress. Tini Uria's Advancement. Tini Uria, a stable mate of Dillon Logan, made appreciable advancement under W. Barron's care last season, and, as ho is nicely placed in the Railway Handicap, he should bo one of the prime fancies. He made an auspicious star* at Ashburton Inst season, where he came home most unexpectedly to pay a great dividend, which was later stated to be due to stable investments being shut out. As ™ini Uria has since performed creditably, he should not be at a large figure in any of his starts at Hutt Park. , . , . , Mountain Mist, tho greaMy-improved trotting mare by Guy Parrish, who. won wel nt New Brighton last Saturday, is now set a stiff task in the Wilford Handicap, but. as she is a solid jnaro. tnoso m front 01 her will not require to make many mistakes. Off a 4.14 mark Mountain Mist cannot be counted out of the raco by any means, and. if it were not for the presence of the good young trotter King's Guard on the limit. 4.5*), her prospectc would be considered much brighter. When in Auckland last month the Ashhurst. trainer "FT. Garnett expressed satisfaction with the manner in which his old trot'er Audo Spray was retaining hie form. Audo Spray has been racing for a number of years and hns always managed to nav for his keen. Two seasons ago ho was in the discard and was picked up cheaply by a patron of Garnett's stable. Audo Spray is ono of the plodding type of straight-out trotters, whose lack of brilliance is more t'iian offeet by their solidness.
