MAROONED ON A ROCK.
TERRIFYING NIGHT ORDEAL. yFive drenched and bedraggled young men struggled home at Watchet, Somerset, early oiffe morning recently after being marooned for. hours on a rock, with waves threatening at any time to wash them out to sea. They tried to return home at nightfall along the shore, and reached Longsands, about 600 yards from Watchet, where the cliffs rise to a great height, when they found it impossible to make further progress or retreat owing to the fast-rising tide. The young men sought shelter at first in a cave but were driven out by the water. They clambered on a large rock, and, though repeatedly drenched with spray, they supported each other an kept their 'perilous hold on the r °£ k , un Tfc midnight, when the tide had receded. was impossible, owing to the the cliffs, to see the marooned men from the shore.
