ZENANA MISSION.
Under the auspices of the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission an " India Evening " was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. Barnard Brown, of Remuera Road. Miss I. W. Ireland, one of the society's missionaries from the New Zealand station of Jaunpur, gave a most interesting lantern lecture on the peoples of India and tha work being done by the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission among the women and children —particularly the
secluded women in their zenanas. The mission, she said, was the oldest women's mission working in India, it having been founded 80 years by the late Lady Kinnaird. She showed views of the various departments of the mission's work, namely, educational, medical and evangelistic.
Mr. R. L. Stewart, chairman of the New Zealand executive of the mission, stated that New Zealand was responsible for the station of Jaunpur, which district has a population equal to that of New Zealand, and many villages in it where so far tha Gospel has never been preached. As the mission is interdenominational it is dependent on Christians of all churches for support. He asked that those who wanted further information should apply to Miss D. J. Dannefaerd. the secretary for New Zealand, who was present. Mrs. S. T. Page. Miss Ireland, Miss Dannefaerd, Miss Sims and Miss J. Cuttle wore Indian dresses showing the various style worn by various types of women. The Rev. H. S. Conway thanked Miss Ireland on behalf of those present for her illuminating talk. She. drew attention to the peculiar difficulties in India arising from the caste system, and stated that what India needed at tha present time was the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
