BRITISH EMPIRE PARTY.
Tlio British Empire garden party was hold at Roehanipton Club on July 8. writes our Loudon correspondent. There was a .special polo match of Dominions v. Roehanipton, and the Grenadier Guards Band played. I here was a large gathering of visitors from overseas, there being three times as many New Zealanders com. pared with a year ago. Among those rereiving the guests were Sir Thomas and Lady Wilford, Earl and Countess Jellicoe, and among those present, were Lord and Lady Liverpool, Sir B. H. and Lady Morgan, Sir Granville and Lady Ryrie, the High Commissioner for Canada and Mrs. G. Howard Ferguson. The great attraction of tho afternoon was the polo match. Major P. Magor's team, the Panthers, won the Open Challenge Cup, beating the Hurricanes in the final tie by six goals to five. It, was a great match to watch, and easily the most exciting of the present season, an extra chukker having to be played before a result was reached. After the match the cup was presented to Major Magor by Mrs. G. Howard Ferguson. The garden party was preceded by a luncheon, at which sir Thomas and Lady Wilford were present.
