DEATH AT SINGAPORE.
YOUNG NEW ZEALANDER. STRUCK BY A MOTOR-LORRY. Further particulars of the death of Mr. Alec Cyril BisTiop, aged 26, a New Zealand surveyor, who, was killed as a result of an accident at Singapore oa August 14, have been received by his father, the Rev. E. Bishop, of Panmure. According to newspaper clippings and letters received by Mr. Bishop, his son was walking along the Changi Road, five miles from Singapore, when he'was struck by a motor-lorry. He was immediately removed tc> a hospital, where he died the same afternoon. Mr. Bishop was Assistant-Superinten-dent of Surveys in the service of the Government of the Federated Malay States. Letters from his colleagues in the service and from many friends indicated the- sucess he had achieved during his residence in - Singapore,, and also the esteem in which .he was held. Mr. Bishop was a keen sportsman, and represented Negri Sembilan at Rugby football. He was also successful as a "boxer and tennis player. r lhe funeral, which took place at the Bidadari Cemetery on August 15, was largely attended by representatives of several Government departments and also by many of the late Mr. Bishop's friends. His only brother was killed while serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces in Palestine in 1938.
