THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. INCREASED BUSINESS PASSING. A substantial volume of business was recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, a good deal of which was completed late on' the previous day and re ported at the early call. Generally, the market was wenk, only three gains being registered against many losses. Improved support was evident in tho market tor Government loans, buyers offering for practically all issues. Firm levels existed for 1937' per cent. Bonds, which changed hands at £95 10s. Inscribed Stock, 1938, 4£ per cent., also made late rates in two deals at £95. The 1939 per cent, issue was also done, twice at a similar figure, which represented a fall of £7> on the level of the last sale, which took place in August. The 1933 5J per cent. Inscribed Stock was secured 5s cheaper at £97. In debentures Auckland Gas, 1935, 6£ per cents., were done unchanged at £IOO 10s.

The tone of the bank section was unaltered. Commercials of Australia continued to weaken and changed hands late on Thursday Id easier at 12s lid, after which offers dropped to 12s 4d, with sellers at 12s 9d. Australasias were turned over 7s cheaper at £B. Further ground was lost by Now Zealands, which, after being done firmer at 41s 10(1 late on Thursday, were sold yesterday at 41s 6d. A rise of 2s 6d was registered by Unions, which had sale at £6 10s. In insurance South British eased 3d to 50s 3d. There was a wider range of transactions in other sections. Pukemiro Coals were dealt in Is cheaper at 30s, the single sale satisfying requirements. Inquiry for Westports was also fully met in a sale 2d bettor at 23s Bd. Auckland Gas were a penny weaker at 23s 2d. Miscellaneous investments were easy. British Tobaccos were marked down Is 6d in a transaction late 011 Thursday at 21s 6d. More were sought yesterday at 20s 6d. Rates were unaltered for Moturoa Oils, which were done at 4s 9d. The only business in mining was a single sale of Cornish Points ljd cheaper at 6d.
