HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. UNSETTLED, WITH SHOWERS. The following -weather forecast, for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Distribution of barometric pressure shows little change, pressure values being much tho same over and around New Zealand, and there is little variation across the Tasman Sea to Australia. Tho westerly type of weather, however, is still the predominating feature, although there is now no depression of any consequence within a considerable distance of the Dominion. The general outlook indicates variable weather conditions, showers being indicated in most districts, particularly in western areas, with' fair to fine intervals intervening. Isolated hail showers are likely in places near tho west coast. Fairly cold temperatures. Westerly to south-westerly winds, light to moderate, freshening at times. Sea 3 moderate. Local outlook: Unsettled, with occasional showers, but there will be long intervals of fair to fine conditions. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.651n. Midnight, Wednesday .. 29.701n. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 02deg.; Minimum, 48deg.

GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —There has been little change in pressure distribution since yesterday, a shallow cyclone still boing located off tho west coast of the South Island, and a slight anti-cyclone east of Tasmania. Indications are for moderate to fresh westerly to southwesterly winds north of New Plymouth and Napier, elsewhere variable, but southerlies prevailing south of Greymouth and Akaroa, soon extending northward. Seas generally moderate. Moderate southerly winds, and moderate seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. The weather will be dull and misty at times with further scattered rain in most districts and snow on some high country of the South Island. RAINFALL RECORD.
