FINALS IN AUSTRALIA. BOY WINS AMATEUR TITLE. (Received September 8, 8.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 8. The Australian amateur and professional golf championships were decided to-day in excellent weather. t The Victorian boy, H. Williams, won the amateur championship. He beat G. Thompson (New South Wales), 3 up and The professional championship was won by J. Spence, who defeated W. Bolgsr, 2 " ThTplay of the amateurs excited most interest. Thompson, who is a 'berate player, made the game slow. Williams, on the other hand, is breezy,-stylish and partial to long hitting, but his approachmg was not as accurate as usual. Thompson was below form and his game was not', up to championship standard, possibly owing to the fortnights continuous strain of these compel, ions. . The displays by the professionals were much more consistent. Spence began shakily, but finished strongly.
