LICENSING POLL BILL. | MEASURE NOW PASSED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Legislative Council met this morn--3 rig. The Licensing Poll Postponement Bill ■pas received from the House of Representatives. In moving the second reading, Sir Thomas Sidey, Leader of the Council, said thp bill had been modified in view of tlie possibility of the postponement of the general election. The Hon. W. Earnsliaw (Wellington) fair] the Government was putting the cart before the horse. Before the poll had been postponed, the Government should have decided whether there was to have been a postponement of the flection. He thought the Alliance had made a mistake in agreeing to postponement, as he felt the trade would strengthen its position before the next poll was taken. The Hon. W„ H. Melntyre (Nelson) commended the Government for its z action and expressed the hope that there would be a postponement of the general . election for two years. The Hon. L .j M Isitt (Chrislchuich) paid if he had-thought there was a possibility of prohibition being carried he ■would have opposed the bill, but as it " was he welcomed the measure. The country would >ot tiave approved of the Alliance insisting on a poll at a time like the present. The bill was.iead a second time, put 'through the'remaining stages and passed. The Finance Bill No. 3 was also received from the House, put through all Stages and passed without discussion. The Council adjourned nntil Wednesday.
