THAMES OLD GIRLS.

ANNIVERSARY PARTY* Tho fifth anniversary of the Thames Old Girls' Association was held afc Scots Hall on Saturday afternoon, and was very largely attended. A special guesfc of honour was Miss Haselden, aged 80, whose birthday occurs within a fortnight. Miss Haeelden was formerly headmistress of one of the large schools at Thames for many years. To celebrate the. occasion she was presented with, a, very charming piece of china and a bouquet from the association by two little girls, Marjoria Bennett and Margaret Fairgray, greatgrandchildren of the late Mr. James Renshaw, who was chairman of Miss Haselden's school committee at Thames. . Miss Haselden briefly replied, thanking the gathering for their gifts and good wishes. Mr. Fairgray, who also lived at Thames for many years, spoke, and another old friend, who arrived in his invalid chair specially to see Miss Haselden, was Mr. Christie, whom she had taught at Thames as a boy. He, too, had a few words to say of past days. Sirs. Oldham, the president, welcomed the 1 , gathering, and read apologies from Sir James Parr and the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison. Associated with her on tho platform were Lady Parr, who is an old Thames girl. Mrs. McMiken (secretary), Miss Haselden and Miss Lena Gibbons.

A delightful programme of entertainment was presented, including -selections played by Sir. Whitehouse's orchestra. Items were given by Mrs. Simpson, Sir. Rowe, Mrs. Deberg, Miss Casely, the Rev. Mitchell and Miss Smythmau. The accompanistes were Miss Parr, Miss Rowe and Miss Peak. The beautiful decorations of the hall were very much -admired by the gathering. Later in the afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Dawson and her very able committee. The birthday cake, which was decorated with five cajidles, was cut by Mrs. R. Smith, aged 90, and Mrs. Taylor, also 90 years of age. A stall for the sale of various kinds of articles was in charge of Mrs. Douglas-Reid, Mrs. Offer, Mrs. F. W. Brown and Miss Shaw,
