OBITUARY.
MR. J. W. POOLEY. The death of Mr. James Walter Pcoley, a very old resident, of Auckland, occurred at his residence, 18, Graham Street, City, on Saturday. Mr. Pooley was born in England 72 years ago and arrived at Auckland with his parents in the ship Eagle's Speed in October, 1864. For almost 25 years he was employed by tho Waitemata Sawmill Company as a carver and ornamental woodworker. He was credited with being the pioneer of the camping movement on Rangitoto Island and for 20 years was caretaker for tho Rangitoto Domain Board, resigning that position four years ago/ On Christmas Day, 1880, Mr. Pooley was married in tho Bercsford Street Congregational Church to Miss Dorothy Taylor, fourth daughter of tho lato Mr. and Mrs. William Taylor, of Auckland. Mr. Pooley is survived by his wife, a son, Mr. A. W. T. Pooley, of Ponsonby, and three daughters* Mrs. A. J. Evans and Mrs. S. 11. Jarvis, of Sydney, and Mrs. 11. Constance, of Mount Eden. "The interment will take place at Waikumetc cemetery this afternoon.
MRS. GEORGE YOUNG. tFROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "tfARKWORTH, Saturday. One of th„e oldest inhabitants of Warkworth passed away last week in the person of Mrs. George Young. She had reached the advanced ago of 87, having been born at Riddingvan, Wales, in 1844. She came to New Zealand with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Trethowen, by the ship Josephine Willis, in 1853, landing at , New Plymouth. The family later came to Auckland and short ly afterwards settled at Duck Creek, Warkworth. Deceased was married to the late Mr. George Young in 1865, and settled in the homo in which she lived until her death. For the past 18 years Mrs. Young had been en invalid. She leaves a family of nine—seven daughters and two sons—also 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
