A children's dance in plain and fancy costumes was held at Daly's H*ill on Friday evening in aid of tho queen carnival" which is being held in connection with St. Joseph's Church at Takapuna. The judges for the costumes were Mrs. H. C. Levett and Miss Dorothy Steele.

The Tauranga District High School's annual ball, held ill the Town Hall last week, was a great success. The ballroom was attractively decorated, and tho hundreds of young people in fancy costumes made a gay scene. The catering arrangements were controlled by tho teachers, members of the school committee and their wives. The proceeds, a substantial sum, will go toward the allevia lion of distress, the proposal to so devote tho funds having emanated from the headmaster, Sir. A. Bell.

A wedding of special interest to Australia occurred at Balcombe, England, when Walter Raymond Bun-ell, the son and heir of Sir Merrick Burrell, married tho Hon. Anne Judith Denman, daughter of Lord Denman, who was Governor-General of the Commonwealth from 1911 to 1914, states the Sydney Sun. The bride was born in 1907 and the bridegroom in 1903. Tho bride's presents from her parents included a diamond tiara, a pearl necklace, a motor-car and a hunter, The couple will spend their honeymoon in tho United States.

A most enjoyable arid successful fancydress dance organised by the Kamo School Committee in aid of funds for the dental vlinic was held at Kamo. Over 100 children were present in fancy dress. There were some, excellent costumes in evidence, and those of the prizewinners wero of a very high standard. Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Clayton Thome judged the costumes and awarded prizes as follows: —Girls under eight, most original, Zena Mark wick (Mother Goose); boys under eight, most original, Errol Wilkinson; best dressed, under eight, gills, Eunice Rowland (fairy); boys, Sel wyn Wilkinson (golliwog); over eight, most original, girls, Ruth Edge (buy Empire goods); boys, Norman Boyd (10 per cent, cut); best dressed, girls, Lorraine Ruddell; boys, Charley (Rajah). Excellent music was supplied by a Kamo orchestra.

The largo reception room at the Parliamentary Buildings, Wellington, was pleasantly filled on Thursday afternoon when Mesdames A. F. Ilawke, A. Ansell, W. Endean and D. Jones gave a tea parly fo many friends. Tlio room was charmingly arranged with flags and groups of conservatory plants, including many primulas and foliago plants, while the tables wero fragrant witli beautiful single daffodils in two tones of yellow. There were some lovely bowls of cinerarias in tones of mauve and pink, also deep blue. The hostesses received the guests at tlio entrance door. Mrs. Ifawke wore a black lace frock with a black hat and fox fur; Mrs. Endean, deep blue marocain frock with touches of black and a spring hat in tones of blue; Mrs. Ansell, black embossed georgette and coat ensemble, and a black hat; Mis. Jones, honey-coloured lace, fawn fur, and hat to tone.

To raise funds for the Mount Albert Croquet Club an afternoon was hold at the residence of Mrs. A. P. Smith last week. Assisting Mrs. Smith were Mrs. L. Tow 11 ley and Mrs. McKay. Trump whist was played, the winner being Mrs. Hall. Competition winners were Mrs. Windsor, Mrs. II Wright, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Cuthbert, Mrs Edwards, Mrs. Burrell and Miss Rountrco. Songs were sung by Mrs. Dale and Mrs. V. James, Miss Rountree playing the accompaniments. Among those present were:—Me-sdames Windsor, Robertson. Angus, Maxwell, Jury, J E.
