STOWAWAY'S ADVENTURE.
TRIP ACROSS THE TASMAN. ESCAPE IN CAPTAIN'S BOAT. A Now Zealand youth who stowed away on the small steamer Gabriella, which arrived at Sydney recently from Greymouth, added to the enormity of his offence and the indignation of the "skipper" by stealing tlio captain's "jolly boat" to escape. The lad crept aboard the Gabriella at Greymouth, and made a lifeboat his "stateroom." Until the following evening he was tucked well out of sight. But the Gabriella bounced so merrily that the "free-tripper" had no doubts as to his being at sea, and gave himself up. The captain put him to work with the seamen scrubbing paintwork. lie recovered from his seasickness, ate heartily, and generally enjoyed himself.
When the Gabriella dropped anchor at Johnstone's Bay, Sydney, the captain went ashore in his "jolly boat," and the authorities were informed of the stowaway.
As soon as the boat returned, and the captain had gone to his cabin, the lad dropped into it, and rowed out of sight before ,ha was missed. The boat was discovered abandoned at Glebe Island,
