FANCY DRESS BALL.

The Mangere East Hall was well filled; on Thursday evening for tie annual children's fancy dress ball held this year under the auspices of the Mangere East School Committee. "The display of fancy costumes was the best yet seen and -presented a very pretty spectacle to the large assembly of parents and friends. They were judged, by' Mrs. Campbell. exMayoress of -Auckland, and Miss Carnachan. Mr. G. Massey presented tha prizes, which were won as follows: Under five years: Girls, Jaqneline Belcher, who represented a 'Victorian lady; boys, Roger Cutneld, little Boy Bine. Under eight years: Girls, Both -Firniss, Dutch girl ; boys, David Hosking. sheik. Under 12 years: Girls, Alma - James, "Spring"; boys, Frank Massey, "Folly." Over 12 years: Girls, Dcra Hagan, Dolly Tardea; boys. Willie" Cunningham, Spanish brigand." Prizes for the best original costumes were presented to the following :—Over eight years: Girls, Olive Turnbull, a brand of cocoa; boys, Allan Bose, "Night and Day." Under eight years: Girls, .Ansa Cook'and Hetta Eustace, Mencan. twins: boys., Norman Bennett, "Eat more fruit." Special prizes were'won as s follows: —Girls: Mary Nash,- Mary_ and her little lamb; Margery Fen ton, Gipsy; Theima Madgw-ay, jazz baby; -Jean Deverill, ace of spades.. Boys: B2ly Lundy, Uncle Sam, tax collector; Bayner Cook, cnpid; Billy Evans, "The' Singer was Irish"; Bill Prangiey, Mad Hatter. Items were given during the evening bv the following:—Mr. J.
