EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD. BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY. The following are extracts from tht New Zealand Herald of August 24, 1881: The petition begging the Grafton District Road Board to initiate steps to bring about the forming and opening of a public road through the cemetery to connect the districts of Karangahape and Ponsonby with the Grafton Road has, wo find, been forwarded to that body. The number of signatures to the petition, is 94 and it has been most influential'? signed. If completed, the work would be a great boon to the whole community ot Auckland. Those members of the community are few who would not occasionally avail themselves of this route to • 8 hospital, Domain or Parnell. ... Some of the city councillors are 'averse to the union on the score the city is well endowed and Ponsonby wholly unendowed. However, when t endowments were originally granted y Sir George Grey, the boundaries of City of Auckland were from tha TarnaKi to the Whau portages. The general idea is that if the boundaries of the city wer extended from Hobspn's Bay to L*\. market, taking the line of the Kay Pass and the new North Road till °PP * site the waterworks, and thence to sea, a territorial division would becompact, easily managed and over whicn well-devised water and drainage system could be carried out on a comprehensive and systematic plan.
