costume's and sketches. The annual costume and sketch evening of the Auckland Dickens Fellowship, held under the presidency of Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, attracted a large attendance. Nearly 30 characters were impersonated in costumes, the prize for the best being awarded to Mr. T. Vivian, as "Sam Weller." The following were highly commended: —Mrs. Wolstencroft ("Mrs. Murdle"), Miss MacCormac ( "Georgians Podsnap"), Mr. Wolstencroft ("Mr, Jarndyce"), Dr. Kenneth Gordon ("Dr. Marigold"), Mr. Preston Chambers ("Caleb Plurnmer"), Miss Statham ("Mrs. Gummidge"). The following sketches were given:— "Fagin's Apprentices," by Maurice Stitt, J. Carrie and G. Brown; "'Bill Sikes" Plot," by Sir. T. Vivian, Mrs. Stratton and Mr. J. E. Green; "Madam Defarge.," by Mrs. Stratton; "Sirs. Gummidge's Lament." by Miss Statham; "The Father of the Marshalsea, Mr. Dorrit," by Mr. C. Kidson. The Rev. A. B. Chappell gave a competition, entitled "Dickens Without Words."
