LAKE COLERIDGE TROUT.
FINE FISH SECURED. HOPES OF "A SECOND TAUPO." "A second Taupo," is the description of the ranger, Mr. Digby, of the future of Lake Coleridge, according to Mr. C. H. Lawrence, president of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. At a meeting of the council Mr. Lawrence said that Mr. Digby had secured beautiful fish at Coleridge—up to 131b. for rainbows and 101b. for brown trout. It was reported that 88,000 eyed rainbow trout ova had been secured at Lake Coleridge, Mr. L. A. Shand said that it would be a waste of time to 1 liberate rainbow in tho rivers, but the chairman said that he would Like to see rainbow liberated in the Waimakariri. Mr. Lawrence said that rainbow ova supplied by the Government would cost 6s a thousand. A motion was carried that the gardens committee be authorised to instruct the ranger to collect further ova at Lake Coleridge on a suitable dato. The committee reported in connection with the quotation received from the department for the supply of rainbow eyed ova that it had been resolved that the question of obtaining supplies be deferred until next season.
