LOWER TAXI FARES.
HUGE RUSH OF ORDERS.
EFFECT OF ADVERTISEMENT.
POSITION OF OTHER COMPANIES. As a result of the advertisement which appeared in Saturday's Herald, announcing a reduction in taxi fares, the office of Black and White Cabs, Limited, was besieged during the week-end with orders for taxis. Within an hour of the delivery of the Herald throughout the city telephonic inquiries commenced to roll in and before 8 a.m. tho entire fleet of cabs owned by the company was booked up* During the remainder of Saturday and Sunday not a cab was idle. The manager of the company, Mr. C. A. Turner, said the quick response to the advertisement came as a surprise, as the rush for orders was not expected so early in the day. If the demand continued steps would have to be taken to augment tho company's "fleet' to cope with the increased business.
Increased patronage was also accorded by the public during the week-end to Chess Taxicabs, whose fares have been reduced. Inquiry from the other companies engaged in the taxi business elicited the information that the action of Black and White and the Chess cabs in reducing fares would bo considered by the other firms to-day. No intimation was given as to what steps would be taken to meet the competition, but individual taxidrivers stated that a reduction in fares on similar lines to that of Black and White Cabs was fully expected and many drivers were in favour of a bold policy of retaliation which would bring fares lower still.
