TEST FURTHER DELAYED.
BAIN AT MANCHESTER.
PROSPECTS UNPROMISING.
MATCH UNLIKELY TO START.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Special to N.Z. Presa Association.) (Tieceive-1 August 18, 12.25 a.m.) MANCHESTER, August 17.
There was no play at Manchester today in the test match between the New Zealand cricketers and England, and it is unlikely that a start will bo possible to-morrow.
Manchester has fully maintained its reputation for rain. Heavy showers fell at intervals throughout yesterday, completely nullifying the short periods of sunshiuo, and there were leaden skies and a steady drizzle to-day. Unless there is a sudden and complete improvement in the weather, it appears that not a ball will bo bowled in the match.
A LAST RESORT.
ATTEMPT TO DRY WICKET.
USE OF BLOTTING PAPER. (Received August 17. 8.45 p.m.) LONDON, August 17. Huge sheets of blotting paper were among the devices used at Manchester in an attempt to prepare the wicket for the test cricket match at Old Trafford between England and New Zealand. •
