CHILEAN GUESTS WELCOMED. MODERN BUSINESS TENDENCIES. The commander of tha Chilean training vessel General Baquedano, Captain Luis Alvarez, and officers were the guests of the Auckland Rotary Club at its weekly luncheon in Milne and Choyce's Reception Hall yesterday. The president, Mr. H.T. Goldie, presided. A welcome to the Chilean guests was extended by Mr. Goldie, who said tho club had received a message of greeting from tho new president of the Arauco (Chile) Rotary Club. It was decided to return the Chilean Club's greetings and Sir. Goldie, on behalf of the Auckland Club, presented a New Zealand flag to Captain Alvarez to be forwarded to tha club.
An address on the tendencies of modern business was given by Rev. E. C. Roberts. He referred to the present tendency toward combines and the rationalisation of industry and said it was a fallacy that mere "bigness" -in a iirro meant efficiency. He was a believer in the small business and the small business man, who, he' considered, would do his part in placing the nation again en tli» road to recovery.
