SPORT AMID THE SNOW.

ARTHUR'S PASS VISITORS. j Snow conditions were not absolutely ideal for skis and toboggans at Arthur's Pass on Sunday, says a Christchurch paper, but that did not prevent the 400 odd excursionists from enjoying themselves. There was plenty of snow—about a foot on the station and varying depths on the road. The thaw had set in before the excursionists arrived, but the surface remained in good condition. There were mpre toboggans out than usual and .most of these found stretches of hard snow/where they could produce the necessary momentum. The more experienced ski-runners found their way up to the ski-ing grounds, where the conditions were much better. Here the opportunity was taken to get some practice for the Alpine sports that will take place next week-end. Several ckis were broken through falls, but there were no injuries sustained by the runners. There was a greater depth at the grounds at Hill Peak than there had been ior some time. Later in the afternoon rain began to fall and the threat of heavy rain clouds drove many to the shelter of the trains.
