AUCKLAND UNION MEETING. {;' ' H SUCCESS OF GRAMMAR CLUB.' MATCH AGAINST WAIKATO. Congratulations on its success in the senior | prade competition were extended to tlie Gitaimar Club by Mr. 11. Frost, chairman of , the management committee of. the Auckland Rugby Union, at last evening's meetin;;. ■ Mr. A. Tilly "was appointed manager of the Auckland team for the match with Wailcato at Eden Park on Saturday. The question of appointing a team manager for the match at Pukekohe was left in the hands of the emergency committee. Tho Auckland Grammar School was granted permission to send a team to Hamilton on Saturday, Mr. A. acting B3 manager. The Suburbs Club applied for a special match to be played in its district, and lor permission to make a charge to the ground. It was resolved to refer the matter to the mrotich committee,, for favourable consideration and to approve the making of a . charge, Subject to a return of receipts and payments being made to the union. The Thames Union submitted applications for reinstatement from M. Watene and TV. Suvage. It was resolved to recommend the reinstatements in each case. TV. Brimble appeared in person and it was resolved to recommend his reinstatement also. The following ground officials were appointed for Saturday:—Show Grounds, Mr.. 'Matthews; Avondale, Messrs. TAIHAPE, Wednesday. Taihape defeated Jiangitikei by 18 points to 11 in a match for the Pownall trophy played at Taihape to-day. The hoQje team had the better of the same and thoroughly deserved its victory, which was due chiefly to the excellent play of the forwards. For Taihape, Hall, W. Thompson and Belliss scored tries, D. Thompson kicked a field goal and W. Collier kicked a goal from a mark near half-way and also converted a try. Anderson and Walker scored for Rarigitikei, G, Hartley kicke<l a penalty goal and converted a try. Taihape have held the I'ownall trophy since 1027.
