MEMORIAL TO BYRON.
■o CEREMONY AT OLD HOME. GREEK PREMIER'S TRIBUTE. British Wireless. RUGBY, July IS. Tho Premier of Greece, Mr. Venizelos, yesterday took part in ceremonies at Newstead Abbey, the ancestral home of Lord Byron, which has been given to the city of Nottingham, to be maintained in perpetuity for the enjoyment of the public, and in memory of the poet. Mr. " Venizelos said he had brought to the memory of Lord Byron tho deep and sincere homage, gratitude and remembrance of the whole Greek nation. Modern Greek history had been enriched with tho magic of. the great English poet, and nobody could think of free Greece without thinking at the same time of Lord Byron, and his death for the freedom of Greece. — ; \ Sir Julien Cahn in October last presented to the Nottingham City Council the park of Newstead Abbey, the homo of Lord Byron, with a large portion of the grounds, and the abbey and tho Byron relics and furniture, which he had purchased from Mr. Lan Fraser. The bedroom of the poet is left almost exactly as when he used it. Sir Julien is a wellknown supporter of cricket. •
