TAGGED TROUT.
ANGLERS' OBLIGATION. POOR RESPONSE MADE. Tho need for anglers to return particulars of lagged fish to the society was em-y phasised by Professor E. Percival at a meeting of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society last week. It was stated that, so far this year 1050 had been tagged in the Selwyn and it was hoped to bring the total up to 1100 before the traps were removed from the river. Scales would bo obtained from 1500 trout.
Professor Percival said that the position regarding tho tagged fish did not appear to be clearly understood. Ho had spoken to one fisherman who had told him that it was not worth while returning the tagged fish as no acknowledgment was sent out by tho society. "It is part of an angler's business," said Professor Percival, "to supply as many of the fish to the society as possible. Unless they do return tho tags they aro to a certain extent wasting their own money."
