MOTORING REGULATIONS.

Sir, —Could I, through your columns, reiterate the remarks that have appeared from time to time, complaining of the unwarranted and annoying delay accorded motorists who have committed some minor breach. o£ the motor regulations and who only too often receive notification of such offence at a date so remote from that of the alleged breach that they are either extremely hazy of the incidents surrounding the occurrence or are unable to recall them at all. I should like. in. this respect, to instance a case that recently occurred to me. Halfway through January I committed a minor -breach of the regulations, but' received no communication whatsoever for 153 days, i.e., until the very end of June. I was then summoned to attend Court within considerably less than 48 hours. ' This would have entailed a 200-mile journey, travelling expenses and loss of salary for the days of leave. Had I wished to make a case of it and present witnesses, I should have found it well nigh impossible. What is badly needed in New Zealand is a system whereby the clusmy issue of warrant and attendance at Court are abolished in favour of an immediate payment of the fine at the Traffic Department's offices;, such fine to be in accordance with a definite scale of charges laid down by the Bench for all minor offences of the Motor Vehicle Kegulations. Disgusted.,
