CHRISTIANITY IN CHINA.

WORK IN UNITING COUNTRY. The influence of the Christian Church in helping to unite China during the confusion of the past few years was stressed by Dr. H. W. K. Mowll, Anglican bishop of Western China, in an address on missionary work in that country, which he gave in the Holy Sepulchre Hall last evening. Archbishop Averill presided over a full attendance. Dr. Mowll said the Chinese native Church, which was allied to the Anglican Church, had representatives in all parts of China, and every three years a general synod was held. At these synods some of the bishops could not communicate with each other in any other language than English, on account of the number of dialects in the country, wlfich showed the difficult problem confronting the central Government at Nanking in uniting the different provinces. In each diocese many groups of Christians were scattered in each village, and Ecliools had been founded in many centres. The work of these schools was of great value in combating the anti British feeling which was being fostered by Communists' propaganda in the State schools. . "Mrs. Mowll gave an account of Chinese life in the cities and country, her reiß&cks being illustrated by lantern slides.
