HERALD'S SPECIAL FOREGAST,

SQUALLY, WITH HEAVY SHOWERS The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening;— The new depression is crossing the Dominion and barometric pressure lias decreased considerably under its influence. Expect unsettled boisterous weather, with heavy showers in most districts. Temperatures are likely to become very cold, accompanied by hail and thunder in places near the west coast and snow oil the higher levels in the south. Westerly to northwesterly winds, strong to gale, and squally. Rough seas on tho west coast. Local outlook; Squally, with heavy showers. Colder temperatures. Barometer, midnight, fulling . . 23.65 in, Midnight, Sunday . . .. 30.05 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 61deg.; Minimum, 48dcg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A depression is centred west of Holsitika and it is being followed by a secondary one, which this morning was located near Tasmania. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds backing to southerlies within about 24 hours, reaching gale force in some places in and north of Cook Strait. Seas becoming rough on the west coast and about Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate. Strong northerly winds, later backing to southerlies, in tho eastern Tasman Sea. Seas rough. The weather will be dull and in places misty or foggy. Almost general rain is probable, with some heavy falls and later some snow on high country.
