RACEHORSE SHOT.
FOUND DEAD IN STALL. BULLET WOUND IN HEAD. Prince Cyllene, one of the best gallopers at country meetings and a winner at Randwick, was found dead in his stall at the Imperial Hotel, Cowra, Now South Wales, recently.. lie was shot through tho head. The horse had engagements at the Cowra meeting, and had clone so well in 'his work that his owner and his trainer considered he had an excellent chance of success. Ori Monday, June 29, Prince Cyllene was given work by his trainer, L. Laundess, and was subsequently placed in his usual stall for tho night'. The horse was left unattended, as had been the custom for months, and it/was not-until 7.15 the following morning that Laundess made the discovery. A veterinary, surgeon discovered a very small bullet wound in the horse's head. Mr. Robinson said that Prince Cylleno was a valuable horse, and lie had him insured for £SOO. He had refused many tempting offers for him. He was at a. loss to understand why the horse had been shot. I\lr. D. Beckirmn, licensee of the hotel at which Prince Cyllene was stabled, said that an examination had failed to reveal any trace of the bullet. Tho puncture was very small. Prince Cyllene was a six-year-old gelding by Cylleno More from Some Sister, and last season won ten races in 15 starts. Four of the victories were recorded in successive starts. 110 bad won three races (his season.
