TRIP TO CANADA.
YOUNG STOWAWAY'S ERROR.
Arrested on the arrival of the Monowai from Vancouver on Sunday, Jack Williams, aged 18, farm hand, was charged before Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday with slowing away on the Waikawa at Auckland on May 8. He pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused had told the police that when he boarded the Waikawa lie thought she was going down the coast to Lyttelton. The steamer, however, went to Vancouver, where accused was detained by the Immigration Department and subsequently returned to New Zealand on the Monowai.
In entering a conviction without penalty the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, took into consideration the fact that Williams had been in custody in Canada for three weeks.
