LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. DEVONPORT DEFEATS RICHMOND GOOD SHOWING BY ELLERSLIE. The senior championship of the Auckland Rugby League was continued on Saturday under fine weather conditions, although rain during the week had made the grounds on the heavy side. In the principal attraction at Carlaw Park Devonport was successful against Richmond, after an even contest, by a margin of four points. On the No. 2 ground Ellerslie created a surprise by scoring ■well against Ponsonby, and suffered defeat by three points only. At Western Springs Marist was too good for Newton, which, made a good showing against the. leaders. City had the bye on Saturday. Devonport and Marist are still equal in the lead for championship honours. The results of Saturday's matches were as follows: — Devonport, 14; Richmond, 10. Ponsonby, 20; Ellerslie, 17.
