SECOND TEAM WINS.

DEFEAT OF SOUTH AUCKLAND. FOURTEEN POINTS TO EIGHT. POOR DISPLAY AT EDEN PARK., $ Tho Auckland'' B representatives defeated South Auckland at Eden Park on Saturday afternoon by 14 points to 8. Tho game was disappointing to the largo crowd present, as it was almost entirely void of spectacular play. Tho handling of the backs of both teams was very bad, and this accounted for so much ragged play. Apart from the good hooking of Souter and Haywood there was little life in the*.Auckland pack, Barker and Bunting being the most consistent forwards. Butler played a very sound game at fullback, making but one mistake when he allowed Lawrie to pass him. He got' his side out of difficulties on many occasions through accurate handling and good line kicking. Vear was the only back to show initiative on attack, his jinky running puzzling the opposition. o The South Auckland forwards were superior in all departments except in ability to secure the ball in the serums. They were very good in the loose. Lawrie was the pick of the backs, all of whom gave an indifferent exhibition of handling and passing. The teams were as follows:

Auckland.—Butler (captain), Kedgley, Brainsby, Gower, Vear, Townsend, Conway, Keane, Haywood, Souter, Williams, Barker, Bunting, McVeagh, Mills. South Auckland.—Winter, Stephens, Walters, Coster, Lawrie (captain), Wood, Moyle, Guise, Aitcheson, Fulton, Kerebs, Lee, Crosbie, Dunn, Baker.

Auckland Scores Pirst. South Auckland kicked off, against the sun. Erratic passing by the backs of both teams was responsible for a lot of ragged play in midfield for the first 10 minutes. Haywood was prominent in a loose forward rush, which took play into South Auckland's twenty-five. Kedgley picked up in the loose and, meeting with feeble tackling, crossed the line a foot or so from the corner flag. Keane made a gocfd attempt from the difficult angle.; Auckland, 3; South Auckland, 0. An Auckland forward was penalised for offside, but Guise missed the shot from beyond the twenty-five. Keane cleared the Auckland line when a loose forward rush looked dangerous. Another similar rush carried play to the front of Auckland's goal. The ball, came out from a scrum, Moyle passing to Lawrie, who ran round. tho blind side and sent on to Walters, the last-named grounding the ball, although held by two opponents.Guise failed with the kick. Auckland, 3'; South Auckland, 3. A couple of penalties cost Auckland a' good deal of ground. The South Auckland forwards broke up quickly and did fine work in the loose, but the backs handled very poorly and no headway was made. Winter was bustled, by three opponents and Conway was unlucky in missing a try through tripping. Keane then failed with a penalty shot from a fairly easy angle. Conway worked the blind side cleverly and Vear followed with a jinky run, but he could not'retain his foothold, a certain try being ..lost.' Shockingly bad passing lost Auckland several good chances. Bunting- made a strong dash and passed infield. Keane dribbled the ball on and scored behind the posts. Butler converted and halftime arrived With the score:—Auckland.8; South Auckland, 3. : ' >. Goal Disallowed. The second spell opened with offside penalties against each team. The visiting backs set up their best passing rush, so far, but Coster knocked on. Guise then failed with a penalty kick from near halfway. Butler's, sound defence got his side out of trouble, on several occasions,' and his fine kicking sent play into the visitors' half. The Auckland captain missed with a penalty shot from beyond the twenty-five. Butler was prominent again when he ran up and started the forwards off in a passing rush, but mishandling spoiled the chance. Brainsby kicked through and followed up fast. He secured the ball, but was tackled a couple of yards from the line. Barker was in attendance and he picked up the ball and scored between the posts. Butler sent the ball between the posts, but the goal was disallowed as he had kicked the ball while Conway still had his hand on it. Auckland, 11 j South Auckland, 3. ' Wood made a nice opening before passing to Lawrie, who scored in a handy position. Guise converted. Auckland, 11; South Auckland, 8.

Gower made a run which took play into his opponents' twenty-five. He passed infield, but Barker knocked on before crossing. The Auckland forwards afctacked strongly, but Lawrie cleared well. The same player gained a lot of ground when he side-stepped Butler, but he was overhauled by Brainsby. Barker fielded the ball brilliantly from a clearing kick and passed out to Gower, who scored wide out. Butler failed at goal, and the game ended: Auckland, 14; South Auckland, 8. ' Mr. J. G. Gasparich was-referee.
