CONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN.
THE WAIAU PA SCHOOL. RESIGNATION OF COMMITTEE. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 PUIvEKOHE, Saturday. The school committee at Waiau Pa has resigned, and a meeting of householders is being convened by the Education Board for Wednesday, July 29, to elect a new committee.
Trouble has arisen over the arrangements for conveying pupils to the school, and this has led to the members deciding not to continue in office.
At the annual meeting of householders on April 27, all new members were elected to the committee, which subsequently arranged with a new contractor to convey the children. However, the previous contractor continued to run, taking his own and other children to and from the school.
Evidently feeling that the position thus arising would best be dealt with by an outside body, the committee asked the board to handle the matter as between the two contractors, and the board has called for fresh tenders for the service. Meanwhile, however, the members of the committee came to their decision to resign.
Motor vehicles are used for conveying the children, about 20 being carried.
