DETECTIVE RETIRES.
FAREWELL BY COLLEAGUES.
After having served several years with merit in tho investigation of crime in Auckland, Detective J. A. Moon has retired from tho police force. He was
tendered a farewell at the detective office on-Friday by his colleagues. Chief *Dpteetive Hammond presented the retiring officer with a travelling-bag on behalf of the staff.
Detective Moon has seen 20 years' service with the Government and for several years was in the Permanent Defence Force. During the war he was a gunner on transpacific vessels. Later he became an official of the Post and Telegraph Department and subsequently an officer of the Prisons Department, On January 1. 1923, Mr. Moon was transferred to- the police force and a year later was promoted to the detective department He has been responsible for important captures and was regarded as an expert in tho detection of criminals who specialised in safe-blowing.
