SAILORS' HOME.
STRAIN ON TKE FINANCES. WAGES CUT APPLIED. / ' - The financial, position of the Auckland Sailors' Home has been given special consideration by the council of the home. Ipt 46 years the institution authorities have been endeavouring to provide for the needs of seamen when paid off from their ships at Auckland, and have accomplished a considerable amount of good work in ministering to their needs. But for years past the work has been earned on at great loss and the position is causing the council much anxiety. In an endeavour to overtake at least part of this loss the council has decided to reduce all salaries and wages bjr 10 per cent. In June 37 free meals and U beds were supplied, in addition to whicn the home is carrying several seamen wdo are unemployed.
