MODERN SAMSON.
LIFTING AN 800LB. BULL. Strange as ii seems, the most powerful " he-man " iri Tennessee is named H. E. Mann, a lusty young fellow, in the early twenties. He is a real bull-man. He can lift a full-grown bull weighing 8001b. on his back and walk round a field with it.
This young rustic Samson is_ looking for fresh bulls to conquer. To lift 8001b. on the back of his neck, he declares, is child's play. He is on the look-out for a real outsize in bulls—one weighing at least 12001b! Three years ago Mr. Mann was a seedy, weakly youth, who was afraid he would never be strong enough for farm work. One dav, for a bet, he tried lifting a 401b. bull calf. He found it comparatively easy, and for a week performed each day with the animal. >• The following week he found a slightly heavier calf to try his weight upon, The week after he tried a heavier one still. So it went on till ho was able to lift the heaviest bull on the farm. He now declares that, unless he can find his outsize in bulls, he will have to -pass on to lifting two at once!
