OBITUARY.

MRS. JANE WYLIE

Another of the pioneers of the Pukekohe district, Mrs. Jane Wylie, aged 81 years, passed away yesterday. Mrs. Wylie was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, and came to Now Zealand with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thotnas Moore, in the ship Canges, landing in Auckland in 1865. Mr. and Mrs, Moore settled at Pukekohe shortly afterward, and Mrs. Wylie was married here. Her husband, the late Mr. Hugh Wylie, took up virgin land on the lower slopes of Pukeltoho Hill, and converted the holding from a bush-clad wilderness to a highlyproductive farm Mr. Wylie died 20 years ago, and Mrs. Wylie had continued to live on the farm. She is survived by three sons and one daughter. There are 12 grandchildren. MR. WILLIAM GRANT HAY. [B¥ TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] DUNEDIN. Friday. The death occurred this morning of Mr. William Grant Hay, one of the bestknown barristers and solicitors in Duncdin and one who had figured in some of the most prominent lawsuits during the last 20 years. Mr. Hay was educated at the Otago Boys' High School and the Otago University and in 1901 he gained his LL.B. degree, honours in law being won by him in 1903. For nearly 30 years ho was lecturer on jurisprudence at Otago University and his masterly grip of his subject was of immense benefit to students who have sat under him. For many years Mr. Hay was partner in the legal firm of Solomon, Gascoigne and Hay and in 1917 ho commenced on his own account and built up a substantial practice. He was particularly well known in bowling circles and was a member of the Otago Bowling Club and a pastpresident of the Dunedin Bowling Centre. A prominent Freemason, he was grand warden of the Grand Lodge of Now Zealand during the period Viscount Jellicoe was grand master and was also president of the board of general purposes of Grand Lodge. Mi". Hay, who was 53 years of age, is survived by Mrs. Hay and a family of four.
