NO MORE APPOINTMENTS.
GOVERNOR REFUSES ADVICE.
(Received July 9, 8.45 p.m.) SYDNEY. July 9.
In replying to a question by Mr. T. R. Bavin, Leader of the Opposition, in the Legislative Assembly to-day, the Premier, Mr. J. T. Lang, announced that the Governor, Sir Philip' Game, had refused to accept the advice of the Ministry for the appointment of additional members to the Legislative Council. During an. angry interlude a Nationalist member, Mr. A. Reid, called Mr. Lang "the biggest darned scoundrel in Australia." , Mr. Reid was removed from the Chamber, shouting names at Mr. Lang, who did not reply.
COUNCIL'S RESOLUTION. OPPOSITION MAJORITY. LABOUR MEMBERS* SUPPORT. * SYDNEY, July '97 The motion endorsing the Legislative Council's rejection of the Emergency Income Tax Bill and its protection of the people of New South Wales against the abuse of power by the rejection of this and other measures not approved by the electors, which was moved in the Council by Mr. F. S. Boyce, was carried by 33 votes to 16.
Several of the Labour nominees crossed the floor to vote against the Government.
