INSURANCE AGAINST RAIN.
£ISOO FOR 10 POINTS.
BIG BENEFIT TO CHARITY,
A football match for charity between the Victorian Football Loaguo and the Victorian Football Association on the Melbourne cricket ground on Juno 6 was partly spoiled by rain which fell on Friday night and Saturday morning. Despite tho adverso weather, however, there wcro 16,000 people present, and the net proceeds wcro oxpoctcd to exceed £IOOO.
Mr. S. W. Hodgor, tho secretary of tho Royal Victorian Instituto for the Blind, in order to provido against all contingencies, took out a rain policy with an insurance company for £ISOO, at a premium of £lls, which covered the match for that amount, in tho event of 10 points of rain falling between 11 o'clock and 3 o'clock on Saturday. It was a wise precaution, for between tho hours named 24 points of rain fell, and so. to use a sporting expression, Mr, Hedgcr won easily. The rainfall records show that up to 9 o'clock on Saturday morning 95 points fell, betweon 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock there wcro four points moro, and tho rain seemed to be passing away. However, there was steady rain after mid-day, and the insurance company will have to pay £ISOO to tho Blind Institute, irrespective I of the gate receipts.
