HENDERSON AFFAIRS.

TOWN BOARD DECISIONS.

REGIONAL PLANNING SCHEME,

At the meeting of the Henderson Town Board on Tuesday evening, the chairman, Mr. A. W. Bussey, reported that at the conference of representatives of the Waitemata County Council, the Glen Eden and Henderson Town Boards and the !New Lynn Borough Council, it had been decided to form a new authority for the licensing of motor vehicles within the districts mentioned, to be called the No. 4 Licensing Authority. Letters from the Transport Board referring .to 'the heavy motor-vehicle regulations and from the Master Plumbers' Association requesting the board to prohibit the use of graphite roof paint within its area were referred to the By-laws Committee to report at the next meeting. The Town Planning Board wrote that it-had decided to recommend all local authorities to pass a resolution agreeing to unite for the purpose of preparing a regional town planning scheme. Strong exception was taken to the suggestion that the passing of such a resolution by two or more of the local bodies concerned should give the Town Planning Board power to proceed with the scheme, and it was also considered that in view of the present depression the scheme should be deferred until a later date. It was decided to advise the Town Planning Board to that effect. . The New Zealand Farmers' Union wrote protesting against the Government using money from the Unemployment Fund for the purpose of advertising certain manufactures. The members of the board expressed themselves as entirely in sympathy with the views expressed in the letter, and it was decided that a letter be sent to the Prime Minister on the subject. It was decided to accept the offer of the Post and Telegraph Department to share the cost of removing certain telegraph poles on a basis of 50 per cent. It was also decided to approach the Railway Department, stating that as the wages of railway servants had been reduced by 10 per cent., some reduction should be made in the scale of fares.
