HELP FOR UNEMPLOYED.

Sir, —In my opinion, farms which fall in to the Advances Department should be taken over by the Government, and run by a specially-appointed board, free from political control, similar to that recently appointed to manage tho railways. In fact, I consider the Government should boldly enter the field as producers of butter, meat and wool, making use of every improved acre available, paying hibonr at bare living wage during the present time of stress, with promiso of increaso as soon as warranted. 11. N.M.

6 Sir, —I read with a feeling of admiration of the work of Auckland Good Samaritans and of the courage displayed by those whom the present financial stringency has deprived of any income. New Zealand during the time oli the Great War displayed great loyalty and public spirited men and women organised various means of raising funds in aid of the Red Cross and for comforts for the bovs at the front. Let us ono and all now give of our best. Mr. Forbes has appealed to the churches and local bodies for assistance, but we require some leaders and an organised plan, that all may benefit equally. Personally, I think we should build up the Unemployment Board's funds, as the board has the organised machinery to administer the money. Jesus Christ tells us to "Bear ono another's burdens," and in obedience to that command as a professing Christian I am prepared to pav £5 to the board's funds or to any genuine organisation that will provide labour for the man oui, of work. I appeal to all ministers of religion to take up this problem at once and to the congregations, for tho honour of God, to give of their best. The necessities of life are plentiful and cheap and none should go hungry. I fcol sure a call to the farming community for free beef fit to kill would meet with a great response if it could bo arranged for the cattle to be received and slaughtered at the freezing works and then distributed. Hoping that, capable men in each district will, see the need and offer their j services to the end that all may be provided with food and work. L ' Digges;
