WINTER WOOL SALE.
OFFERINGS AT WELLINGTONGOOD DEMAND FOR CRUTCHINGS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. With an offering of 2150 bales the fir.st winter sale of wool, crutchings and oddments, lield at Wellington to-day, wns over in an hour and a-quarter. There was a representative bench of buyers who operated on very restricted limits. A comparatively small quantity of fleeco wool was offered, the general quality and condition being inferior. Tho recent decline in tho Homo and Australian markets was clearly reflected, crossbreds selling at a decline of up to l> ( d per lb. on the prices, at Wellington in April. Except for a few Jineu bidding for fleeco wools was lifeless and passings were monotonously frequent. Thero were rio Japanese orders to-day. Threfi lines cf Southdown fleece made as high as 9JUI, and one Down cross 7|d, but crossbreds seldom went as high as 6d. On tho other hand, competition for crutchings was keen. Canada and tha local mills took a proportion of the best crutchings. Bradford, France, -and other Continental buyers competed for all lots that suited their requirements. Crutchings sold at prices that were relatively high compared with those for fleeco wool. Super crutchings brought up to Sid. The range of prices is as follows: — Crossbred Crutchings.—Superior, 4|d to medium to good, 3,d to seedy and inferior, to 3?d. Crossbred pieces and bellies, 2?d to 3£d; locks and stained pieces, lid to 2id. Fleeco not quoted. THE SYDNEY MARKET. KEEN FOREIGN COMPETITION, (Received June in, 0.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. Jundi 16. At the wool sales to-day 9096 bales were offered and 6168 sold. Also 2982 bales were disposed of privately. There was strong Japanese competition and increased support from tho Continent. The market was unchanged from yesterday. Good Jihps were in demand. Greasy Merino made up to 13£ d.
