THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. MORE INTEREST IN BANKS. Increased attention was paid to tho banking group on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. In tho gilt-edged section a sale of 1936 per cent. Government stock was put through at £99 ss, which is 2s 6d below tho price at tho last Auckland sale five days before. Gisborno Shcepfarrners' debentures had tho first sale since the life of tho issue was extended and tho rate of interest written down 1 per cent. In tho banking section Commercials of Australia preference gained 5s on tho previous salo in the South to change hands at £5 10s. New South Wales wero dealt in at tho current price of £24 17s 6d. New Zeahuuls also sold at an unchanged price of 48s 3d. Insurances again showed practically no movement. In the loan and agency section buyers of Goldsbrough-Morts dropped 6d to 18s 3d. Auckland Gas held tho previous day's quotations. Offers for New Zealand Breweries wero 3d easier at 32s 9d. _ No sales wero recorded in tho miscellaneous section and tho market was very quiet. In mining King Solomons lost tho previous day's gain of 4d to sell at tho afternoon call at 2s lOd. Moro wero wanted at that price. Waihis had buyers at 15s, compared with 14s lid on Monday. Buyers of Wnihi Grand Junctions also moved up Id to 3s 3d. CLOSING QUOTATIONS.

The Department of Agriculture has received tho following cablegram from tho High Commissioner for New Zealand in London:—Tallow: Fair demand at auction. 811 casks offered, 267 sold at. a 6d decline during this week and a Is 6d decline on last auction.
