FUNDS NEARLY EXHAUSTED.
SUGGESTED WORK ON LAND.
SIR GEORGE RICHARDSON'S PLAN
Owing to tho number of unemployed ex-servicemen applying for relief there has boon a heavy call upon the funds of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association.
Sir George Ilichardson, president of the association, stated yesterday that help was being givon in the way of food and clothing, but the funds available would not last long at the present ralo of applications.
A deputation of about 200 unemployed ex-servicemen niol Sir George yesterday morning and he asked for their co-opera-tion in a scheme to break in unimproved land. He suggested that the inen should agree to work in the country, with rations provided and the supply of a small amount of pocket-money, wliilo their wives and children in the city were maintained. The men unanimously agreed to accept, these terms if offered by tho Government.
