DEATH OF MARINER.
MASTER GF THE RUAHINE. The death of Captain D, Urquhart, for. nierly captain of the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Ruahine, was recalled yesterday when the vessel reached Auckland from. England. When the Ruahine left London on the present voyage Captain Urquhart was in command, but he became ill a few hours after entering the English Channel, llis complaint was diagnosed by the ship's surgeon, Lieutenant-Colonel M. J. Cromie. as double pneumonia, and as his condition was dangerous it was decided to stop the ship and put him ashore. He was landed at Falmouth and Captain T. L. Maltby, formerly commander of the Otaki, brought the Ruahine to New Zealand. = Captain Urquhart died.on May 22, two weeks after he had been landed, and the news of his death was received by wireless on the Ruahine after the vessel had passed through the Panama Canal. General regret was expressed by officers and crew at the loss of so popular an officer.
